Common Name Volonte's Paphiopedilum [Beligian Orchid Enthusiast and friend of Linden 1800's]

Found only within Sabah in northern Borneo in hill and montane forests on screes in the shade of bushes or in leaf litter along ridge tops at elevations of 600 to 2600 meters as a miniature sized, warm to cold growing lithoterrestrial found on serpentine rocks, cliff faces along waterways, in moss or humus filled cracks, in deep leaf litter or on rocks and tree roots in light shade near waterfalls, with a few, oblong-elliptic, obtuse, minutely tridentate, boldly tessellated dark and light green above, purple spotted leaves beneath that blooms in the spring and summer on an erect, to 20" [to 50 cm] long, purple, white pubescent, single flowered inflorescence with a lanceolate, acute, pubescent, pale brown floral bract.
