Common Name Burger's Pelexia [German Orchid Collector in Brazil 1900's]

Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]

Found in Rio Grande do Sul state of Brazil as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with 3, basal, narrowly lanceolate, acute to acuminate, gradually narrowing below into the 9.2 to 12" [23 to 30 cm] long, petioolate base leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, strict, terete, peduncle [40 to 50 cm] long, provided with several, acuminate sheathing bracts, subglabrous below becoming glandulous-pubescent above, rachis 4" [10 cm] long, 10 to 20 flowered inflorescence with erect-patent, linear-lanceolate, acuminate, lower ones longer than the flowers above gradually shorter than the flower floral bracts and carrying quite large, greenish flowers.

"The closest species is probably Pelexia bonariensis but P burgeri differs in its larger flowers with a more spherical, thicker chin formed by the lateral sepals, a different shape of the lip and the rather tall rostellum." Schlechter 1925
