Common Name Hunt's Pelexia

Found in Amazonas and San Martin departments of Peru without locational data, as a terrestrial orchid with a rosette of broadly elliptic-ovate, abruptly and briefly acuminate, fleshy, glossy, dark petrol green above, purplish red beneath, the petiole and raised midrib beneath a paler pinkish red, smooth margined, petiolate base leavesa that blooms in the spring on an erect, terminal, succulent, peduncle to 10.8" [27 cm] long, pinkish brown, very slightly pubescent, provided with strongly appressed, lanceolate, acuminate sheathing bracts, rachis to 8" [20 cm] long, successively 35 to 40 flowered inflorescence with linear-lanceolate, acuminate, erect, shorter than the ovary floral bracts .

"Similar to Pelexia maculata because of the fleshy leaves. P huntii is immediately distinguished from it by its unmarked leaves, remarkably broad for the genus. Because of the very broad leaves with a short, abruptly acuminate apex P huntii differs with similarily plain leaves such as Pelexia callifera." Christenson 2004
