Common Name or Meaning The Late Blooming Pelexia
Flower Size 1/2" [1.25 cm]
Found in Minas Gerais state of Brazil as a medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial orchid without leaves at blooming occuring in erect stem carrying several, tubular, acuminate bracts and blooming in the summer on an erect, peduncle to 14" [to 35 cm] long, provided with 4 to 7, strict, membraneous, pale green, trinerved sheathing bracts, rachis 2.8 to 4" [7 to 10 cm] long, few to several flowered inflorescence with erect, patent, membraneous, pale green, trinerved, longer than the ovary floral bracts.
"Characterized by the large, bladder-like, globular chin of the lateral sepals. The lip of P hysteranthais narrowly obovate-oblong with an almostkidney-shaped equally broad anterior lobe. Pelexia ventricosa is probably the closest relative." Schlechter 1920
