LATE
Common Name or Meaning The Nova Friburgo Pelexia [Town in Brazil state of Rio de Janiero]
Flower Size 1/2" [1.25 cm]
Found in Ceara, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janiero, Sao Paulo and Parana staes of Brazil and Missiones department of Argentina as a small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect stem enveloped partially by lanceolate, acute, pubescent sheaths and carrying 2?, broadly elliptic, dark green white blotched, acute, gradually narrowing below into the elongate, channeled, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late spring on an erect, peduncle to 8" [20 cm] long, provided with a 4 to 6, distant, triangular, acuminate bracts, rachis 8" [to 20 cm] long, several flowered inflorescence with pubescent, linear, acute, shorter to longer than the flower floral bracts.
Similar to Pelexia adnata, but P novofriburggensis has shorter petiolate base leaves, a rather densely many flowered inflorescence and somewhat larger flowers.
From the disjunct combination of synonomous descriptions for this species [P calophylla, P hypnophila & P novofriburgensis], I can maintain that the species must be variable in leaf coloration, stem coloration, bract coloration and length plus flower coloration. I have to date not found a publication that ties them together and by what morphological means unite them.
