LATER
Common Name The Scepter-Like Pelexia
Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]
Found in Sao Paulo, Parana and Rio Grande do Sul states of Brazil as a large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with 3 to 4, basal, erect-patent, lanceolate to ligulate-lanceolate, acuminate, gradually attenuate below into the pseudo-petiolate base leaves that blooms in the later winter and spring on a erect, terminal, cylindrical, peduncle 17.2" to 23.2" [43 to 58 cm] long, provided with 5, amplexicaul, lower more or less foliaceous, upper smaller sheathing bracts, rachis 6.8" [17 cm] long, cylindrical, more or less many flowered inflorescence with narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, lower ones slightly longer than the flowers, slightly shorter than the flowers above floral bracts and carrying externally hairy flowers.
"Schlechter compared this species to Pelexia bonariensis but P sceptrum differs in the relatively slender leaves which persist at blooming, the long and spear-like inflorescence, the larger flower with a narrower labellum and the very slender column. The lip varies as in all Pelexia but it is usually always more elongate, less widened under the subapical contraction. The flowers are impressive because they have laterasl seplas pointing downwards at a right angle to the ovary and the spur is decurrent along the same, almost the same lengtrh as the ovary and not very bulbous. The leaves are sometimes much longer, tapering considerably at the base." Hoehne 1945
