Found in China, Hong Kong, Assam, eastern Himalayas, India, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam in seasonal evergreen and pine forests and moist grasslands at elevations of 300 to 2100 meters as a small to medium sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with sub-globose to oblong-ovoid tubers giving rise to an erect stem with 2 to 3, tubular, basal sheaths and carrying 4 to 6, widely spaced, ovate, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, acute to acuminate leaves that blooms in the summer and fall on an erect, cylindric to slightly ridged, slender to stout, 4.4 to 15.2" [11 to 38 cm] long, laxly to subdensely many flowered inflorescence with several sterile bracts anmd ovate-lanceolate, basal ones often exceeding the length of the ovary, acuminate floral bracts
