Common Name The Full Lipped Peristylis - The Hawaii Bog Orchid or Hawaian Fringed Orchid - Puahala a kane

Flower Size .5" [1.25 cm]

Found rarely only in Maui and Molokai Hawaii in moist and wet forests in bogs on ridges and the subalpine zone of lava substrates at medium elevations as a large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with a tuber giving rise to an erect stem carrying a few leaves then grading to bracts above that blooms in the later spring through mid fall on an erect, terminal, many flowered inflorescence.

Hawaii's rarest orchid and on the federal list of endangered species.
