Found in western Sichuan and northwestern Yunnan provinces of China in fir forests, thickets and and alpine grasslands at elevations of 1700 to 3900 meters as a small to medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with oblong tubers giving rise to an erect stem provided with 2, basal tubular sheaths and carrying 4 to 5, widely spaced along the stem, oblong-lanceolate, acuminate to acute leaves that blooms in the summer and late fall on a terminal, erect, peduncle 2.4 to 4.4" [6 to 11 cm] long, cylindric, slender, provided with 4 to 8 lanceolate, sterile bracts, rachis 2 to 8.4" [5 to 21 cm] long, 4.4 to 13.2" [11 to 33 cm] long overall, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with acuminate, lower ones exceeding the flowers floral bracts.
