Found in southern China, Hong Kong, eastern Himalayas, Assam, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam in rocky soils in evergreen and grassy pine forest margins at elevations of 100 to 1800 meters as a small to medium sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial orchid with an erect, glabrous stem usually carrying 2 to 5, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, herbaceous, amplexicaul and basally clasping leaves grading above into 1 to 6 suberect to spreading, lanceolate, acuminate to acute sterile bracts that blooms in the late summer, fall and winter on a terminal, erect, racemose, 4 to 6" [10 to 15 cm] long, laxly many flowered inflorescence with linear-lanceolate bracts
