Common Name The Painted Phaius - in Australia - the Forest Swamp Orchid

Flower Size 1.6 to 2" [4 to 5 cm]

Found in New Guinea and Queensland Australia in sheltered, humid rainforests in swampy to streamside locations at elevations of sea level to 600 meters as a large sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial with 3 to 6, cylindrical to angular stems carrying 3 to 5, plicate, dark green leaves that blooms in the fall on an erect, 12 to 36" [30 to 90 cm] long, several flowered inflorescence with successively opening flowers.
