Found in Zamora-Chinchipe province of Ecuador at elevations around 893 to 1210 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm to cool repent epiphyte with a cylindrical, subflexuous rhizome enveloped by spiculate, imbricate, brown papery sheaths giving rose to terete, stout ramicauls subtended by 2 tubular, imbricate, persistent papery sheaths and carrying a thick, suborbicular to elliptic, dark green completely suffused with brown, or only at the margin, suffused with magenta abaxially, verrucose and pitted, obtuse to sub-bilobed apically, margin involute, sessile base leaf that blooms in the late summer and fall on an erect, arising from the ramicaul, peduncel very short, .044" [1.1 mm] long, profusely covered with brownish purple spicules, single flowered inflorescence with infundibular, chartaceous shorter than teh ovary floral bracts.
"This species is similar to P. nummularia from which it differs by its .04" [1 mm] long peduncle (vs .32" [8 mm]), the sepals yellow and red colored with cinnamon brown stripes (vs whitish gray and yellow sepals with reddish purple stripes), slightly spiculate on the outside (vs sparsely pubescent), the synsepal slightly concave below the middle (vs connate into a broad tube), the inner integument glandular (vs finely pubescent), the petals triangular-ovate with yellow veins (vs oblong with brown stripes), the lip verrucose-glandular adaxially (vs pubescent-verrucose adaxially) and the column yellow, lobed and dentate at the apex (vs yellowish brown with stripes, erose and cucullate at the apex)."
