Found in Assam, the eastern Himalyas, Nepal, the Chinese Himalayas, and Myanmar at elevations around 1500 to 2400 meters as a small to large sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with an elongate, slender stem giving rise to at intervals, fusiform pseudobulbs often bracteate at the base and carrying 2, apical, membraneous, narrowly elliptic, acute, narrowing below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall on several, from joints on the rhizome, shorter than the leaves, 2 to 4" [5 to 10 cm] long, few flowered inflorescence
