Phreatia djamuensis Schltr. 1923 SECTION Phreatia
Drawing by Schlechter and The Swiss Orchid Foundation at the Jany Renz Herbaria Website
Common Name The Djamu Gorge Phreatia
Flower Size
Found in New Guinea on trees in forests at elevations around 350 meters as a miniature sized, hot growing epiphyte with a very short stem carrying linear, obliquely apiculate, distinctly narrrowly petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on a thinly pedunculate, few bracted, somewhat longer than the leaves, densely many flowered inflorescence with acuminate, equal to the flowers floral bracts.
Schlechter states that the flowers are white.
Schlechter erroneously made 2 entries for the same name in his 1913 New Guinea publication so the mini-miniature sized species with greenish yellow flowers described earlier in the book is the true P stipulata.
