Found in New Guinea and the Bismarck archipelago on trees in forests at elevations around 1300 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool growing epiphyte that blooms in the late fall and early winter.

Schlechter states that the flowers are green. He also states that this species dries black when preserved. This species is very similar to P kaniensis, P polyantha, P vaginata and P myriantha but this one dries black when preserved, has short pedicels and only very small sheaths.
