Found in southern Japan and Taiwan in coniferous, mixed broad-leaved forests and grasslands at elevations of 1600 to 3700 meters as a mini-miniature to small sized, cold growing terretrial with an elongate, creeping, stoloniferous rootstock giving rise to n erecet to ascending stem with 1 to 2, basal, tubular sheaths and carrying 1 to 2, basal, widely spaced, oblong to elliptic, acute, cuneate below into the clasping base leaves that blooms in the later spring and early summer on an erect, slender, 1.2 to 2" [3 to 5 cm] long, 3 to 8 flowered inflorescence with 1 to 4, foliaceous, lanceolate bracts and lanceolate, as long to slightly exceeding the length of the ovary floral bracts.
