Found in New Jersey, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama and Louisiana US as a medium to large sized, cold growing natural hybrid between P. ciliaris and P. cristata with a single striated stem carrying lanceoalte, unequal, diminishing in size above leaves that blooms in the later summer on a terminal, 20 to 30 flowered inflorescence carrying nearly sessile flowers.
