Common Name or Meaning Doucette's Platystele [American Botanist specializing in the Pleurothallidinae current]

Found in Zamora Chinchipe province of Ecuador at elevations around 1800 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with an erect, cylindrical, abbreviated stem enveloped by 2 to 3, dry, foliaceous, lanceolate, acuminate basally truncate sheaths carrying an olive green, erect, coriaceous, linear-spathulate, retuse apex, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring, summer and fall on an erect, flexuous, 3.2 to 4.8" [8 to 12 cm] long, slowly successively several, to 30 flowered inflorescence enveloped basally by a lanceoalte, spathaceous, acuminate apically, basally truncated bract and carrying small, resupinate, transluscent, yellowish brown flowers flowers.
"Similar to Platystele alucitae but is distinguished by the yellowish brown flower color versus white, sometimes suffused with rose, the shorter pedicels .052 versus.12 to .24" [1.3 mm vs 3 to 6 mm], the acuminate sepals versus contracted into a filiform tail and the lanceolate-acuminate lip versus an ovate-acute lip."
