Common Name or Meaning The Zamora Platystele [A province of Southern Ecuador]
Flower Size .28 to .32" [7 to 8 mm]
Found in Zamora Chinchipe province of Ecuador in primaryy forests at elevations around 1400 to 1700 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with an erect, cylindrical, abbreviated stem enveloped by 2 to 3, papery, foliaceous, lanceolate, acuminate basally truncate sheaths carrying an olive green, erect, coriaceous, spathulate, retuse apex, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring and summer on an erect, flexuous, 2.4 to 4.4" [6 to 11 cm] long, slowly successively 1 to 3, to 5 flowered inflorescence enveloped basally by a lanceoalte, spathaceous, acuminate apically, basally truncated bract and carrying small, resupinate, transluscent, yellow flowers.
"Similar to Platystele sulcata but can be distinguished by the smaller lip .096" versus .22" [2.4 mm versus 5.5 mm long] and shorter than the sepals versus about as long as the sepals which are glabrous versus ciliate-pubescent.
