Common Name The Shaggy Tongued Platystele

Flower Size .06" [1.5 mm]

Found in El Choco department of Colombia near river banks at elevations around 100 meters as a mini-miniature sized, hot growing epiphyte with erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, ribbed,tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, ovate, obtuse, gradually narrowing below into the petillate base leaf that blooms in the spring through fall on a basal, erect, .4" [1 cm] long including the .28 to .36" [7 to 9 mm] long peduncle, several flowered, subumbellate inflorescence.

"This species, P beatricis , P ortiziana and P umbellatum to date are the only umbellate inflorescence in the genus. The umbel of P dasyglossa is composed of several, overlapping, very small, simultaneous flowers. The apex of the lip is pubescent, pointed and curing upwards." Luer 1990
