Common Name The Small Horned Pleurothallis

Flower Size 1/8" [3mm]

Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Cuba and Jamaica in dense tropical forests at elevations of 5 to 1350 meters as a miniature sized, hot to cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped basally by 3, scarious sheaths and carrying a single, apical elliptic, obtuse, narrows below into the conduplicate petiolate base leaf and blooms in cultivation in the spring on a 1 5/8" [4 cm] long, successively few, single flowered inflorescence arising from above the base with an acuminate, much shorter than the pedicel floral bract.

"Characterized by elliPtical leaves surpassed by a slender, elongate peduncle that bears a single yellow to orange flwoer on a long, slender pedicel. Only occasionally a second pedicel bears another flower. The sepals are membraneous and subacute, sometimes with darker stripes alongthe veins, the petals are dilated on the labellar margina nd the lip is oblong with marginal angles on the lower half and shallowly sulcate medially between a pair of low calli. Commonly confused with P striata but it is distinguished by a several flowered, congesed, short-pediceled fascile borne by a slender peduncle whileP corniculata bears on long pedicels, one to sometimes a second flower."
