Common Name Dodson's Pleurothallis [American Botanist in Ecuador Current]

Found in Tungurahua, Napo, Pastaza and Bolivar provinces of Ecuador in wet montane cloud forests in shady leaf litter on trunks of old mossy trees at elevations of 730 to 1900 meters as a miniature sized, warm to cool growing, repent, pendent epiphyte with a creeping rhizome giving rise to a repent ramicaul carrying a single, apical, broadly elliptical, grey green with purple spots leaf that blooms at any time of the year on a very short, single flowered inflorescence with the flower enveloped by a dry, red brown, inflated, longer than the ovary floral bract.

"The elliptical leaves form tangled masses or sometime hanging chains of overlapping leaves. The flower matures in a large inflated spathe at the base of the leaf, but as the ovary swells, the flower begins to emerge." Luer 2007
