Flower Size .2" [5mm]
Found in Veracruz, Guerero and Chiapas states of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Panama on mossy trees in wet cloud forests at elevations of 1000 to 2700 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with erect ramicauls enveloped by 2, thin, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly obovate, subacute to obtuse, gradually narrowing below into the ill defined petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring and fall on an erect, lateral, more or less arching, loose, secund to distichous, to 2.8" [7 cm] overall, rachis to 1.2 to 1.6" [3 to 4 cm] long, successively several flowered inflorescence with oblique, acute, as long as to shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
"Characterized by the small leaves borne in a tuft by abbreviated ramicauls. The loose, successively flowered raceme of pale, greenish flowers far surpasses the leaf. The apices of the epals are contracted into short, slender but sometimes thickened tails. The petals are small and obtuse and the margins of the lip are erect and rounded above the lower third above a broad claw. The ovary is costate with the carinae varying from smooth, slightly irregular, coarsely irregular to distinctly verrucose. The variety with thickened tails was originally described as P hagsateri."
