Found in Alajuela province of Costa Rica at elevations around 900 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm growing, caespitose epiphyte with a short, erect ramicaul enveloped by 2 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, erect, coriaceous, obovate, obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the late fall and early winter on a fascile of slender peduncles .4 to .48" [1 to 1.2 cm] long, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with a tubular, shorter than the pedicel floral bract.
"This small species of subgenus Specklinia, is apparently rare, or overlooked, known only by the original collection[then]. It is distinguished by obovate leaves borne by abbreviated ramicauls. The fascicle of small, single, purple flowers with darker purple stripes is borne by a hairlike pe-duncle nearly as long as the leaves. The sepals are fleshy, subcarinate and acute, the laterals connate to near the apices. The petals are abruptly narrowed above the middle. The oblong lip is minutely ciliate, deeply channeled down the center with a "sun-dial" callus above the base, and the base is minutely bilobulate." Luer 2002
CAUTION!!! The photo above does not seem to match Luer's type drawing very well especially in the thickened apices of the petals and the wide open Dorsal and synsepal. The lip is very close though so the flower may have been forced open to see that.
