Common Name Herrera's Pleurothallis

Flower Size .4" [1 cm]

Found in Quetzaltenango province of Guatemala in wet pine-oak forests at elevations around 2100 meters as a miniature to small sized, cold growing, shortly repent to caespitose terrestrial with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped by 3 to 4 tubular sheaths flecked with purple and carrying single, apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, elliptical, subacute to obtuse cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer and late fall on a short, arising from the rhizome, peduncle .4" [1 cm] long, rachis .6" [1.5 cm] long, loosely 3 to 4 flowered inflorescence with infundibular, purple spotted, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.

"It is closely allied to P. johnsonii, but it is distinguished by the larger, yellow, purple-spotted flowers; acute sepals and petals; and a subpandurate lip with prominent, uncinate, basal lobes. As with P. johnsonii, the flowers are produced in short racemes from the rhizome. The inflorescences are consistently produced from the rhizome, apparently not from the apex of the ramicaul as is sometimes the case in P. johnsonii> Luer 1991
