Common Name or Meaning The Loja Pleurothallis [A Province of Ecuador]

Found in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia at elevations around 1300 to 1800 meters as a small sized, cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with erect to suberect, triquetrous, ramicauls enveloped below by 2 sheaths and carrying a single, narrowly oblong, obtusely acute, round below fleshy leaf that blooms in the spring on 1 to 2, arising through a compressed, subacuminate spathe, 1" [2.5 cm] long, sub-densely 5 to 7 flowered inflorescence with oblong, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.
"The leaf is acute, varying from ovate to elliptical, the ramicauls are slightly compressed towards the apex. The short, congested raceme lies atop of the leaf, The inner surfaces of the sepals are more or less minutely verrucose. The petals are minutely denticulate. The lip is oblong-ovate with an obtuse, minutely denticulate to nearly smooth apex, a pair of verrucose call with a low broad callus between." Luer 2004
