Found in Rio de Janiero state of Brazil in primary forest at elevations of 700 to 850 meters as a small to medium sized, warm growing, repent epiphyte with erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 short lived, light brown, with dark purple spotted sheaths and carryinjg a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptic, acute, slightly infolded at the base, leathery, dark olive green, conduplicate leaf that blooms in the fall on 1 to 2, 3.2 to 5.2" [8 to 13 cm] long, rapidly successive, 12 to 20 flowered inflorescence arising through an acute spathe.
