Common Name The Lamina Pleurothallis [refers to the calli of the lip]

Flower Size 2/5" [1 cm]

Found in Antioquia department of Colombia, Zamra-Chinchipe and Loja provinces of Ecuador, Cusco department of Peru and Bolivia at elevations of 1950 to 2930 meters as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with stout, erect, ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and another close to the middle carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, ovate, acute leaf with a cordate, sessile base that blooms in the spring on an arcuate, subtended basally by a spathe, to 4" [to 10 cm] long, loosely several flowered inflorescence with an infundibulbar, shorter to as long as the pedicel floral bract holding the simultaneously opening flowers out and away from the leaf.

"Distinguished by the stout ramicaul carrying a single, ovate, cordate leaf that blooms on an arching raceme of relatively large flowers with sepals intenely striped in purple, extremely thick petals adherent to each other and a rounded, bicallous, minutely denticulate lip with broad basal lobes clasping the column."
