Common Name or Meaning The Straight Spike Pleurothallis [refers to the erect inflorescence]

Found in Antioquia department of Colombia and Ecuador at elevations around 1850 meters as a medium to large sized, cool growing, caespitose terrestrial with erect, stout ramicauls enveloped by a close, tubular sheath below the middle and 2 to 3 others at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, ovate, acute, slightly acuminate cordate to rounded below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the spring on 1 to 5, arising through a spathe at the base of the leaf, erect, subsecund, 6 to 8" [15 to 20 cm] long including the 2" [5 cm] long peduncle, densely many flowered inflorescence with an inflated, infundibular, longer than the pedicel floral bract.
"Characterized by the large habit and an erect, many flowered raceme as long or longer than the ovaate, sessile leaf. The spotted sepals and petals are similar to others ion the section but the rounded lip is distinct with a pair of conical calli within the margins below the middle and a central cavity below a transverse callus near the middle."
