Found in Amazonas, Pasco and Huanuco departments of Peru in remnant or degraded forests at elevtions of 1700 to 2200 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with steout, erect, terete below, sulcate above ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous-thickened, ovate to elliptic, cuneate, sessile and decurrent along the ramicaul for .4 to .8" [1 to 2 cm], that blooms in the fall and early winter on 1 to 2, arising through a conduplicate spathe, peduncle .6 to 1" [1.5 to 2.5 cm] long, racemose, successively single to 3 flowered inflorescence with funnel-shaped, obtuse, membraneous, longer than the ovary floral bracts.

Similar to P quarricristata which has sepals .32" [8 mm] long, oblique, subacute, 2 carinate petals and an obovoid lip with a pair of prellel calli. P rodolfo-vasquezii has .56 to .6" [14 to 15 mm] long spals, acuminate, submarginally single carinate petals and an elliptic-oblong, with a small transverse callus at the base lip.
