Found in Loja province of Ecuador at elevations of 2730 to 2850 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with stout erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3, loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, ovate, rounded, abruptly narrowing below into the shortly petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter on an erect, subtended by a foliceous spathe, 2.4" [6 cm] long, several flowered infloresence with inflated, longer than the ovary floral bract.
"The smallest in the subgenus but with proportionally large flowers subtended by cucullate floral bracts that engulf the lowermost flowers. Borne from a small, foliaceous spathe, the secund raceme is about as long as the elliptical, petiolate leaf. The sepals are acute and pubescent within, the petals are 3 veined and the lip is subquadrate, similar to that of P cassidis with an obtuse, decurved apex and a pair of low, rounded calli above the middle. The sides of the lip below the middle are erect and broadly rounded, protruding beyond the base." Luer 1998
