Found in Zamora Chinchipe province of Ecuador at elevations around 2100 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped by a tubular sheath below the middle and 2 to 3 loose, imbricating sheaths at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical-oblong, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter on an erect, arising through a spathe with an annulus adjacent to the abcission layer, 1" + [2.5 cm +] long, densely and simultaneously few flowered inflorecence with a shorter than the ovary floral bract.
"A dwarf member of the P laevigata complex with small, oblong leaves borne by ramicauls that superficially are atypical of the subgenus. Although small the spathe is conspicuous. The sole collection may or may not have the comlete inflorescence, it is only 1" [2.5 cm] long and bears 5 to 6 flowers. The dorsal sepal is obovate and three veined. The obtuse lateral sepals are connate above the middle. The elliptical petals are proportionally large, membraneous and concave. The lip is suborbicular with the broad apex broadly retuse and lacking the usual pair of calli." Luer 1998
