Common Name Wagner's Pleurothallis [German Botanist collected in Guatemala 1800's]

Flower Size 2/5" [1 cm]

Found from Heredia and San Jose provinces of Costa Rica, Chiriqui and Cocle' provinces of Panama, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru as a miniature, warm to cool growing, caespitose epiphyte at elevations of 1700 to 2250 meters with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 thin, tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly obovate, obtuse to rounded, subpetiolate leaf that is narrowly cuneate into the conduplicate, subpetiolate base that blooms on a subdense, secund, simultaneously several flowered, 2 2/5" to 4" [6 to 10 cm] long, racemose inflorescence with oblique, acute, just short of the pedicel floral bract floral bracts and carrying fragrant flowers.

"Characterized by the comparitively small habit with narrowly obovate leaves and a congested, secund inflorescence that surpasses them. The raceme consists of the one sided row fo several , simultaneous, long, fleshy, dark purple to purple brown flowers that do not open wodely. The sepals are covered within by a usually white pubescence. The petals are proportionally small. The lobes of the lip are large and prominently falcate." Luer 1998
