Found in Esmeraldes province of Ecuador at elevations of 2800 to 3200 meters as a miniature to small sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, suberect ramicauls enveloped by a tubular sheath below the middle and 2 to 3 others at the base and carrying a single, apical, more or less spreading to horizontal, coriaceous, narrowly ovate, acute, acuminate, rounded to cuneate below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the spring through earlier summer on ascending, arising through a spathe at the base of the leaf, a fascile of .8 to 1.6" [2 to 4 cm] long peduncles, successivesly single, few flowered inflorescence with a tubular, shorter than the pedicel floral bract.
"Characterized by a fascile of single, long-peduculate flowers borne from the base of an ovate leaf. The dorsal sepal amd synsepal are similarily ovate, the petals ae narrowly ovate, acute and minutely ciliateand the lip is sagittate , acutely deflexed above a claw attached to the base of the footless column. At the base of the blade the basal angles or lobes are erect, rounded and retrorse. The blade is ovate, acute and minutely pubescent." Luer 1998
