Common Name The Broad-Tongued Pleurothallis [refers to the lip]
Flower Size 1 3/4" [4.5 cm]
Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Costa Rica in lower montane rain forests at elevations of 500 to 1700 meters as a medium sized, caespitose, warm to cool growing epiphytic, rarely terrestrial species found from with stems that are enveloped with tubular bracts carrying a single, shortly petiolate, elliptic, acute leaves and blooms in late winter and early spring on an apical, subflexuous, 10" [25 cm] long, racemose, longer than the leaves, successively single, few to several flowered inflorescence with cucullate-amplexicaul, acuminate, much shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
This species has many similarities to P tuerkheimii but differs in the successively flowered, fractiflex inflorescence that is much shorter.
