Found in Japan, Korea and Taiwan in grasslands at elevations of 2200 to 3000 meters as a miniature to small sized, cold growing mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with a stem with a sheath below the oblong-lanceolate, slightly fleshy, amplexicaul base, acute to obtuse apically leaf that blooms in the later spring on an erect, terminal, short, single flowered inflorescence with a narrowly lanceolate floral bract.
