Common Name or Meaning Doggett's Polystachya
Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]
Found in Zaire and Uganda at elevations around 2500 to 3350 meters as a small sized, cold growing lithophyte with a short stem carrying 1 to 2, linear-oblong, obtuse leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, 4 to 6" [10 to 15 cm] long, 5 to 7 flowered inflorescence carrying yellow rose flowers
Rendle 1908 compares this species to P transvaalensis but it is a lower elevation plant and is distinguished by the short truncate bracts, larger flwoers and the lip with an uncrested lip disc.
"Similar to H galatea but it differs in the smaller flowers, the shorter mentum and the differently shaped lip, the claw being short and broad, the lateral lobes rounded and not clearly separated from the middle lobe, while the middle lobe itself has a promi- nent recurved acute apex. The lip, as remarked by Kraenzlin, is very difficult to flatten out, assuming dif-ferent outlines according to the way it is flattened." Summerhayes 1942
