Found in northeastern and east central Madagascar on quartzite rocks at elevations of 1200 to 2300 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing lithophyte with cylindrical pseudobulbs carrying 1 to 2, oblong-ligulate, coriaceous leaves that blooms in the summer on a terminal, erect, twice as long as the leaves, 4 to 6.4" [10 to 16 cm] long, densely 7 to 12 flowered inflorescence
