Common Name The Fly-Carrying Polycicnis [refers to the extended column and pollina]

Found from Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia as a medium sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte or occasional lithophyte on moss covered rocks in wet montane forests below large trees at elevations of 800 to 2300 meters with pyriform, sulcate, obtuse angled pseudobulb with 3 to 4 imbricating, basal sheaths and a single, apical leaf that blooms with a basal, erect, 10" [25 cm] long, pubescent, racemose, many flowered inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb with several, basal, imbricate bracts and 4 to 5 small, remote ovate-acuminate floral bracts arising on a mature pseudobulb and held well above the leaf all occuring in the fall and winter.
