Common Name Collantes' Ponthieva [American orchid enthusiast and collector of species current]

Found in the Cuzco department of Peru in open shady areas in highland wet rainforests on the side and undersurfaces od moss covered branches at elevations of 2000 to 2500 meters as a small sized, cold growing epiphyte or occasional terrestrial with rosulate, pendent, linear-oblanceolate, villose, grey-green, acute, gradually narrowing into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall on a laxly pendent, peduncle 6.4" [16 cm] long, yellow green, shorter than the leaves, rachis 1.4" [3 cm] long, laxly pendent, few flowered inflorescence with upturned apices and ovate, abruptly acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying resupinate flowers with unmarked, pale brown sepals, petals with the basal half muddy green, the apical half bright opaque cream yellow with reddish brown tips and a glossy pale green lip with yellowish green basal margins.
Most similar to Ponthieva villosa but differs in its larger plant with more leavesa, larger floral measurements, an ovate labellum clearly narrower towards the apex and acuminate petals.
