Common Name The Curved Lip Ponthieva

Found in Chimborazo province of Ecuador in very wet montane forests at elevations around 900 to 1100 meters as a medium sized [in bloom], warm to cool growing terrestrial with fasciculate, fleshy, villose roots giving rise to 2 to 3, basal, elliptic, acute to obtuse, somewhat tapering below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms on an erect, slender, peduncle to 10" [25 cm] long, provided with 3 sheathing bracts, rachis to 2.4" [6 cm] long, loosely several flowered inflorescence with ovate, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying white, sparsely hirsute externally, successively opening flowers.

Distinguished by the terrestrial habit, the glabrous leaves on both sides, the glabrous margins of the petals, the dolabriform petals, the sigmoid lip and the claw as long as the blade." Dodson 1989
