Found in central China in pine forests, open scree slopes and meadows often in limestone crevices on ledges at elevations of 20000 to 4700 meters as a mini-miniature to miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial with oblong tubers giving rise to an erct, slender, glabrous stem with 1 to 2 membraneous sheaths and a singel, basal, ovate, ovate-cordate to elliptic-ovate, green spotted with black purple above, basally clasping leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect, terminal, 1 to 4 flowered inflorescence.
