Found in eastern Russia, Korea, Taiwan, China, western Himalayas, Assam, eastern Himalayas, Nepal and Myanamar in forests, alpine grasslands, limestone outcrops and scree at elevations of 500 to 4700 meters as a mini-miniature to medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with ovoid globose tubers giving rise to an erect, glabrous stems carrying 2 to 4, spaces, oblong-lanceolate, green, sometimes spotted with black-purple above, narrowing to the clasping base leaves that blooms in the late spring and summer on an erect, terminal, to 12" [30 cm] long, racemose, several to many flowered, somewhat secund inflorescence
