Found in Taiwan on cliffs, crevasses and on limestone rocks at elevations of 1500 to 2000 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool to cold growing lithophyte with ellipsoid to subglobose tubers giving rise to a green with purple striations or a purple stem with 1 to 2 tubular basal sheaths and carrying 2 to 5, cauline, alternate, widely spaced, green, linear to lanceolate, becoming smaller and bract-like above, glabrous, acuminate apically leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, green to purple 2 to 4.8" [5 to 12 cm] long, 5 to 20 flowered inflorescence with erect, green or purple, lanceolate, acuminate, almost as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying purple, rose to rarely white flowers
