Found in Junin department of Peru in thickets and open woods at elevations of 1800 to 2400 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with 5, 4 baswal and 1 cauline, narrowly elliptic, acute, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late fall and early winter on an erect, terminal, peduncle to 4.8" pubescent, rachis to .8" [2 cm] long, loosely many flowered inflorescence with glabrous, acute, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying inconspicuous, glabrous flowers

"Ponthieva glabriflora is distinguishable from Ponthieva fertilis by the glabrous floral bracts and sepals (vs. pubescent), oblong petals (vs. obliquely oblong-ovate), 2-veined lateral sepals (vs. 3-veined), 3-veined (vs. 1-veined) lip with larger middle lobe constituting about 1/4 of the total lip length (vs. 1/5–1/6 of the lip length), and by the gynostemium that lacks a rotellum."
