Common Name Tuerckheim's Ponthieva [German Orchid Collector in Central America and the Antillies 1800 to early 1900]

Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama at elevations of 1170 to 1650 meters in cloud forests as a medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestria lwith a short stem carrying a spiral rosette of 6 to 8, thin, convolute, ovate-elliptic, acuminate, gradually narrowing below into the elongate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the summer on a terminal, pubescent, spicate, elongating to a 6" [15 cm] long, laxly, successively to 25 flowered inflorescence and carrying non-resupinate flowers

CAUTION< The determinations of this group [P diptera, P garayana, P tuerckheimii] are very difficult to work with photos as there are just not enough angles of the flowers to get the lip right
