Common Name or Meaning Doucette's Porroglossum [Ecuadorian/American Alfonso Doucette, a passionate student of the Pleurothallidinae and respected collaborator on the description and identification of new species from Ecuador]

Found in Morona Santiago province of Ecuador in primary cloud forests at elevations around 2000 meters as a mini-miniature to miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphtye with erect, terete strems enveloped by 2 to 3, papery, tubular sheaths and carrying an erect, fleshy, coriaceous, smooth to subverrucose, new leaves with a purple reticulate venation, elliptical-spathulate, obtuse to subacute leaf that blooms at most any time of the year on a terete, 3.2" to 4" [8 to 10 cm] long, peduncle, rachis tightly congested, successively, few-flowered inflorescence enveloped by membraneous, tubular floral bracts.
"The new species is most similar to Porroglossum porphyreum , but can be distinguished by the by the entire column (vs. with two short tooth-like processes), the colum foot suffused with purple (vs. cream), the petals with a low, obtuse angle along the upper margin towards the base (vs. contracted into an acute process in the same position), and a lip with a cleft callus (vs. entire)."
