Common Name Tokachi's Porroglossum [American Discoverer of species current]

Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]

Found in Zamora Chinchipe province of Ecuador and Amazonas department of Peru at elevations around 1800 to 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with blackish, erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect to suberect, rigidly coriaceous, subverrucose, ellitpical, obtuse to rounded cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter on a erect, smooth, slender, 3.2" [8 cm] long, successively few flowered inflorescence arsing from low on the ramicaul with 3, close, distant bracts and tubular, imbricating floral bracts.

"This species is distinguished by the small, spathulate, subverrucose leaves far surpassed by the slender peduncle that bears a succession of yellow, resupinate flowers. The sepaline tails are short and thick, the petals are narrow above the middle and subclavate, and the blade of the lip is triangular and concave. Porroglossum tokachii is most similar to P. dalstroemii, but the former is distinguished by the short, broad leaves, the non-rotated ovary, and the low, longitudinal labellar callus." Luer 1994
