Common Name The Petiolate Prescottia [refers to the elongate petiole of the leaves]

Found in Antioquia, Meta, Huila and Valle de Cauca departments of Colombia, Ecuador and Amazonas department of Peru in premontane and montane forests as well as cloud forests at elevations of 1200 to 2500 metersa as a large sized, cold growing terrestrial with 3 to 5, elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate, acuminate, basally cuneate into the elongate, to 12" [30 cm] long, petiolate base leaves that blooms at most any time of the year on an erect, glabrous, peduncle to 30" [75 cm] long, provided with several, remote, sheathing bracts, rachis 10" [25 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute, more than twice as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying glabrous flowers.

"This species belongs to a group of large species with long petiolaate base leaves but can be distinguished from the others by the leaf form. The leaf blade is elliptic-lanceolate and more than twice as long as wide. In the other species the leaves are elliptic-ovate, up to twice as long as wide. This species has been placed as a synonym of Prescottia stachyodes in the past.
