Common Name
Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]
Found in southwestern Mexico .
"Found in west central Mexico as a group made up of Prosthechea boothiana [Lindl.] Higgins 1997 , Prosthechea magnispatha [Ames, Hubbard, & Schweinf.] Higgins 1997 and P. favoris. They are all very similar and have a similar distribution. E. boothiana is a small plant withsmall flowers and comes from low zones of the Yucatan and Caribbean often in mangroves in coastal zones at elevations below 150 meters. P. magnispatha y P. favoris are plants principally found in cloud forests at elevations of 800 y 1800 meters on the Pacific slopes and are very distinct from the areas where P boothiana occurs. P favoris has been reported from Colima, Nyarit and Jalisco states of Mexico while P magnispatha is only found in Gurrero and Oxaca states. P. favoris and P. magnispatha are more closely related that P. boothiana. It could be said that both P favoris and P amgnispatha are subspecies of each other but the fact that the differences in the size of P magnispatha are very constant and the area of Michoacan is very large and neither of the species occur there."
